Macabre Color Paint By Number is a spooky-themed coloring game for Android and iOS. You can download it for free from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. It's a mobile-only app. While the base download is free, the game contains ads and offers in-app purchases. These purchases typically range from $1.99 to $9.99 to remove ads or unlock special color palettes and exclusive, more detailed horror images.

The gameplay is classic paint-by-numbers: you see a black-and-white outline of a creepy image divided into sections, each with a small number. You tap a color at the bottom and then tap all sections marked with that number to fill them in. The best part is watching a terrifying scene—like a haunted mansion, a sinister clown, or a gothic vampire—slowly come to life with vibrant color. My favorite part as a player is the surprising contrast; applying bright, beautiful colors to traditionally dark and scary subjects creates a uniquely satisfying and oddly relaxing experience. It's a great way to unwind while still enjoying some Halloween-style fun.

Compared to other popular coloring apps like Happy Color or Pigment, Macabre Color stands out purely for its niche theme. If you're tired of coloring kittens and landscapes and want something with a darker edge, this is your game. I recommend it to players who enjoy horror aesthetics, Halloween, or just want a different twist on the calming coloring genre. It's perfect for spooky season or for anyone who finds beauty in the macabre.

Features

  • Horror-Exclusive Gallery 🎃: Unlike general coloring apps, every single image is horror-themed, from zombies to ghosts, offering a consistent eerie vibe.
  • Simple Color Mechanics 👆: The one-tap fill system is identical to apps like Happy Color, making it instantly accessible for anyone familiar with the genre.
  • Special Effect Finishes ✨: Completing a picture often triggers a nice visual effect, similar to Pigment, giving a rewarding sense of accomplishment.
  • Offline Play 📴: You can download pictures and color without an internet connection, a must-have feature for mobile gaming on the go.

Pros

  • Unique Theme 🖤: Perfectly fills a niche for horror fans, a theme most big coloring apps ignore.
  • Great for Relaxation 😌: The simple, repetitive action is meditative, even with spooky subjects.
  • No Skill Needed 🎨: Anyone can create a cool-looking piece of art, which feels rewarding.

Cons

  • Aggressive Ads 📺: Free version has frequent video ads that can interrupt the relaxing flow.
  • Limited Free Images 🖼️: The best, most complex pictures are locked behind purchases, more restrictive than some competitors.
  • Repetitive Gameplay 🔄: If you don't love the horror theme, the core loop gets old fast compared to more varied apps.
