Zenless Zone Zero is a fast-paced action RPG that mixes gacha mechanics with city exploration. It is made by miHoYo, the same studio behind Genshin Impact, but it is released under their COGNOSPHERE label. The game is on mobile, PC, and PlayStation 5. You can grab it for free on Google Play and the App Store. It also has a PC client and a PS5 version. Like other gacha games, it is free to download but has in app purchases for characters and gear. There are no forced ads, which is a big win. Most players spend money on the battle pass or limited banners, but you can finish the story without paying a cent.
The game puts you in a near future city called New Eridu. You play as a Proxy who guides teams of fighters into Hollows, which are dangerous zones full of monsters called Ethereals. Combat is the best part. You switch between three characters on your team. Each has basic and special attacks, dodge counters, and an assist move. The pacing is quick and every fight feels tight. My favorite thing is the chain attack system. When you hit an enemy enough, you trigger a stun, and then you can launch a flashy team finisher. It never gets old. The game also has a street level hub where you can play arcade mini games, eat at noodle shops, and talk to NPCs. That gives it a cool vibe that most action games skip.
If you have played Honkai Impact 3rd or Punishing Gray Raven, you will feel at home. Zenless Zone Zero is less about perfect combos and more about timing dodges and swapping characters. It is easier to pick up but still rewards practice. Compared to Genshin Impact, this game has a way faster combat loop and a more urban style. I recommend it because it does not waste your time with boring grind sessions. The daily tasks take about ten minutes. The story chapters are short but fun. If you want a stylish action game with great music and a unique look, give this one a try.
Features
- Combat System 🥊 - Quick swap and dodge counters make fights feel smooth and reactive. Similar to Punishing Gray Raven but easier to learn.
- Character Art 🎨 - Every agent has a distinct design and personality. The animations during ultimates are top notch. Better than most mobile action games.
- Hollow Exploration 🗺️ - You move through TV screen style maps with random events. It is a clever twist that sets it apart from Honkai Impact 3rd.
- Soundtrack 🎧 - The music mixes synthwave and rock tracks. It fits the chaotic city energy perfectly. Even the menu theme slaps.
- Progression System 📈 - You level up characters, skills, and gear. The grind is fair and you get plenty of free pulls early on. Not as stingy as some gachas.
- Side Activities 🕹️ - There are arcade machines and mini games that give real rewards. This adds a casual layer that Genshin Impact lacks.
Pros
- Fast Paced Fights ⚡ - Every battle feels explosive and short. No long drawn out boss cycles like Honkai Impact 3rd.
- Free Friendly Pulls 🎁 - Early game gives many free currency packs. You can build a decent team without spending money.
- Low Daily Time 🕒 - Dailies take under ten minutes. Perfect for busy players who still want steady progress.
- Unique Art Style 🖼️ - The streetwear and neon looks stand out. It feels fresh compared to typical fantasy gacha games.
Cons
- Repetitive Dungeons 🚫 - The Hollow missions can feel samey after a while. More variety in enemy layouts would help.
- Gacha Rates 🎰 - Limited banners still have low drop rates. You may need to save for months to get a specific character.
- Mobile Performance 📱 - Older phones lag during big fights. You need a decent device for smooth 60 fps play.
- Story Pacing 📖 - Some chapters drag with too much dialogue. You might skip a lot of text to get to the action.
