You don't need to pay anything to install it and start checking your emails. Setting it up is straightforward; you just need to register for a Yahoo account if you don't have one, which is also free. The app does show some ads, but they are usually non-intrusive banners. There are optional in-app purchases, like extra storage if you need more than the generous free amount, but for most people, the free tier is more than enough.
Using Yahoo Mail daily is a breeze. I have it on my phone and tablet, so I can check emails anywhere. The interface is clean and simple. I have multiple email accounts, including one from work, and Yahoo Mail lets me add them all in one place. A great user tip is to use the swipe gestures. You can customize them to archive, delete, or mark as read with just a swipe, which saves so much time when clearing out a crowded inbox. Another thing I do is use the "Smart Views" feature.
