Sam's Club: Shopping & Savings is a shopping app designed to help you manage your membership and buy everything from groceries to electronics. I downloaded it from Google Play about six months ago after I finally signed up for a membership because my friend kept telling me how much she saves there. The app is free to download and install just like most shopping apps on Google Play, and you need to log in with your Sam's Club account to use it. It has over ten million installs on Google Play alone, which shows a lot of people use it for their shopping needs. You don't have to pay anything extra to use the app itself, but you do need an active membership which costs money per year. The app also has some ads for special deals and items on sale, and there are in app purchases if you want to add things like the plus membership upgrade inside the app itself.

When I use the app, I mostly just browse through the different categories like fresh food, household items, and electronics. The search bar works really well and helps me find what I need fast. I like that I can scan items in the store using the Scan & Go feature, which lets me pay right from my phone without waiting in the checkout line. That is probably my favorite tip for anyone new to this app just use the scan feature when you shop in store because it saves so much time. Another thing I do is add my grocery list to the app and check for deals before I head to the store. The app also sends me notifications about sales on things I buy often, which is pretty handy. For delivery orders, I just pick what I need and choose a time slot, and the app tracks my order step by step until it arrives at my door.

I have tried other shopping apps like Costco and Walmart before, but I keep coming back to Sam's Club app because it feels more polished for everyday shopping. The Costco app is also good but their scan feature is not as smooth as this one in my experience. Walmart's app is great for general shopping, but their bulk deals do not match what Sam's Club offers. What really stands out to me with Sam's Club app is how easy it is to manage my membership and see my savings history right there in the app. It feels like the app was built with the shopper in mind, not just as an afterthought. The design is simple and not cluttered, so even my mom who is not great with technology can use it without getting confused.

Features

  • 📱 Scan & Go is the best feature in this app because you can scan items with your phone camera while walking around the store and pay directly in the app without waiting in line at the register. The Costco app requires you to scan at a kiosk, which is slower and less convenient.
  • 🛒 Same day delivery through the app is really smooth and lets you choose a two hour window for your groceries to arrive. The Instacart integration works well, and you can see real time updates on your order progress which gives you peace of mind.
  • 💳 Membership management inside the app is very straightforward. You can upgrade your membership, check your renewal date, and see your total savings for the year all in one place. This is something the BJ's Wholesale app does not offer as clearly.
  • 🏷️ Coupons and deals are easy to clip directly in the app and they sync instantly to your membership card. You do not have to print anything or show a barcode at the register because it applies automatically when you scan your card at checkout.

Pros

  • 🛍️ The app makes shopping in store much faster because of the scan feature and the ability to pay from your phone without pulling out your wallet. Similar apps like Target's app have a scan feature but it does not let you complete the purchase inside the store as easily.
  • 🔍 Searching for products is very accurate and the filters help narrow down to exactly what you need by brand, price, or availability in your local club. Walmart's app sometimes shows items that are not actually in stock, which is frustrating.
  • 📊 Savings tracking is a nice bonus because you can see exactly how much money you saved compared to regular retail prices. This keeps me motivated to keep using the app and shopping at Sam's Club regularly.

Cons

  • 🐌 The app can be slow sometimes when loading product pages, especially during peak shopping hours like weekends. The Costco app loads faster even with a weak internet connection.
  • 📦 Delivery fees are a bit high compared to Amazon Fresh, and the minimum order amount is also higher than I would like for quick grocery runs.
  • 🔔 Notifications can be too frequent and some are not relevant to what I usually buy, so I had to turn most of them off to avoid getting annoyed.
