YouTube is a video streaming app designed to help you watch, share, and discover videos on almost any topic. Launched way back in 2005 and acquired by Google in 2006, it's become the go-to place for video online. You can get it for free on both Google Play and the App Store, and it has billions of installs. The app itself is free to download and use. You don't strictly need to register to watch most videos, but signing in with a Google account unlocks features like subscribing to channels, creating playlists, and commenting. While the core app is ad-supported, it offers a premium subscription called YouTube Premium that removes ads, allows background play, and gives access to YouTube Music. For many users, the free version with occasional ads is perfectly fine for daily use.
Using YouTube is pretty straightforward. I open the app and the home feed is immediately filled with suggestions based on what I've watched before.
