TouchTunes: Live Bar Jukebox is a music and entertainment app designed to help you control the music in thousands of bars and venues right from your phone. I use it all the time when I'm out with friends. Basically, it turns your smartphone into a remote for digital jukeboxes you find in places like pubs, restaurants, and bowling alleys. The company behind it, TouchTunes Interactive Networks, has been around in the digital jukebox business for years, and this app launched to connect users to their machines. You can download it for free on both Google Play and the App Store. It has millions of installs on Google Play alone. The app itself is free to install and use, but you need to add credits to play songs, which is the main way it works. You don't need to create a full registration just to browse, but you do need to sign in with an account to save payment methods and start playing music. There are in-app purchases to buy credits or subscription packs, and I've seen some banner ads inside the app for promotions or new features, but they aren't too intrusive.
Using the app is pretty straightforward. When you walk into a participating location, you open the app and it uses your phone's location to find nearby TouchTunes jukeboxes. You select the venue, browse the huge music library, pick a song, and pay for it with your pre-loaded credits. A simple tip from a regular user: always check the “Now Playing” queue before you spend credits, so you don't add a song that's already coming up. Another tip is to use the “Favorites” feature to save your go-to tunes for quick access later. You can also create playlists for different moods. The coolest part is the social feature—you can see what others are playing and even give their songs a “thumbs up.” It makes a night out more interactive. I usually just connect, pick a few songs for my group, and then let the app run in the background while we hang out.
Compared to other similar apps like AMI Entertainment's app or just using a physical jukebox, TouchTunes stands out because of its massive network. There are simply more TouchTunes jukeboxes in more bars than any other brand, in my experience. The app interface is also cleaner and faster than AMI's, which feels a bit clunky. While you could just walk up to the jukebox and use the touchscreen, using the app is so much more convenient. You don't have to leave your table, and you can browse the entire library without someone waiting behind you. I choose TouchTunes over others because it's the most reliable and has the best selection. It feels like the standard for digital bar jukeboxes, and all my friends already have it downloaded, so we can all pitch in for credits and pick songs together.
Features
- 🎵 Remote Jukebox Control: The core function lets you select and play songs on a physical digital jukebox from your phone. It's much better than the old way of crowding around the machine.
- 🎵 Vast Music Library: You have access to a huge catalog of songs across all genres to play. Compared to some smaller competitors, TouchTunes consistently has newer releases and deeper catalogs.
- 🎵 Location-Based Venue Discovery: The app automatically finds nearby bars with TouchTunes jukeboxes. This is smoother than AMI's app, which sometimes requires manual searching.
- 🎵 Social & Interactive Features: You can see the public queue, like others' songs, and create shared playlists. This social layer sets it apart from basic remote apps.
Pros
- 👍 Unmatched Network Size: The biggest strength is the number of venues. There's a TouchTunes jukebox in most bars I go to, unlike other services with spotty coverage.
- 👍 Reliable & Fast Connection: The app connects to the jukebox quickly and rarely fails. It's more stable than other apps I've tried that sometimes lose the connection.
- 👍 Intuitive User Interface: Browsing and buying credits is simple. The design is cleaner and more modern than similar apps from competitors.
- 👍 Great for Groups: Easy credit sharing and collaborative playlist features make it perfect for nights out with friends.
Cons
- ⚠️ Credit Pricing: Songs can feel expensive, and credit packages aren't always the best value compared to some promotions run by venues directly at the physical box.
- ⚠️ Requires Stable Internet: If the bar has poor Wi-Fi or your data is slow, the experience can lag, which isn't an issue with the physical touchscreen.
