LeafCheck is a plant identification app that makes identifying plants simple and fast. I started using this app last year when I needed help figuring out what was growing in my backyard. It launched in 2022 and you can easily download it from Google Play or the App Store. The app has over one million installs on Google Play alone and it is completely free to download. You do not need to register right away, so you can start snapping photos of plants immediately. There are some in app purchases if you want extra features like a plant care guide, but the basic identification tool works without spending a penny. There are also ads every now and then, but they are not too annoying. I personally use the free version and it does everything I need. The app covers flowers, trees, succulents, and even weeds.
When I find a plant I do not know, I just open LeafCheck, take a photo, and within seconds it shows me the name and some basic info. The app uses your camera and gives results based on the leaf or flower shape. A tip I always share with friends is to make sure the plant is in good lighting and the background is not too cluttered. This helps the app give more accurate results. I also use the history feature to save plants I have identified, so I can look them up later. If you are gardening or hiking, this app is very handy. It is useful for beginners and people who just want to learn more about nature around them.
I have tried a few similar apps like PlantSnap and PictureThis before I found LeafCheck. For me, LeafCheck works better because it is less pushy about subscriptions. Other apps often ask you to pay almost immediately after a few scans. LeafCheck lets you identify many plants without forcing you to buy anything. The user interface is also cleaner and simpler.
