Tripo - AI 3D Model Generator is an app in the tools category that focuses on turning text or images into 3D models. I found it on Google Play a few months ago and decided to download it because I work with simple 3D printing projects. The app launched around 2023 and it is available on both Google Play and the App Store. It has over a million installs now, which is pretty solid for a niche tool like this. The app is free to install, but you do need to create an account to save your models. There are in app purchases if you want faster generation times or higher resolution outputs, and yes, there are ads, but they are not too annoying.
When I use Tripo, I usually start by typing a short description of what I want, like a small chair or a robot figure. The app then builds a 3D model in about one to two minutes, depending on how busy the servers are. I like that you can also upload a photo and it will try to make a 3D version of that object. A simple tip I learned is to keep your text prompt short and clear. If you add too many details, the model gets messy. Another thing that helps is to use the rotate tool after the model is done to check all sides before exporting. You can export as GLB or OBJ files, which work fine for my slicer software.
Compared to other 3D model apps on Google Play, Tripo feels much faster and easier to use. I tried a few other apps before this one, and most of them either took too long or gave me weird results. Tripo gives you a good quality model the first time most days, so I do not have to redo the whole process. The interface is clean, and the buttons are easy to find even for beginners. I have stuck with Tripo because it saves me time and I can get usable models without needing a computer or advanced skills.
Features
- 🚀 Text to 3D generation is the core feature. You just type what you want, and it creates a model that is ready to use. This is way smoother than using something like Masterpiece Studio, which often needs more tweaking after the first try.
- 📷 Image to 3D conversion works well for simple objects. I uploaded a picture of a mug, and the app turned it into a 3D shape that looked close to the original. Other apps I tested could not match this level of accuracy.
- 🎨 Built in texture and material options are a big plus. You can change colors and surface finish right in the app, which means you do not need to jump to another tool. This is something that apps like Spline often miss out on.
- ⚡ Fast export to common file formats like GLB and OBJ makes it easy to move your work to your own projects. This is a big time saver compared to other apps that only give you limited formats or force you to pay extra.
Pros
- 💡 The app is very beginner friendly. I did not need any tutorial to start making my first model, which is rare for 3D tools.
- ⏱️ Generation speed is really good. Most models show up in under two minutes, so you can test many ideas quickly without waiting forever.
- 🔍 Detail quality is impressive for a mobile app. The edges and curves look clean, and it handles simple shapes better than similar tools on the market.
Cons
- ⚠️ The free version limits the number of generations you can do in a day, which can be frustrating if you are working on a bigger project.
- 🔊 Sometimes the app gets slow during peak hours, and I have to wait a bit longer for results compared to other tools.
