Granny is a first-person horror survival game developed by DVloper. It's available on both Android and iOS through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The game is free to download, but it contains ads. There is also a paid version called "Granny: No Ads" which removes the advertisements for a small one-time fee. While primarily a mobile game, you can also play it on PC using an Android emulator like BlueStacks.
The gameplay is simple but intense. You wake up in a creepy, locked house with Granny, a scary old lady who wants to catch you. You have five days (in-game) to escape. You must explore the house, find useful items like keys and tools, and solve puzzles to unlock doors and find a way out. You have to be very quiet. If you make noise by dropping something or stepping on a creaky floorboard, Granny will hear you and come running. The best part is the constant fear. You never know when Granny will appear around a corner. My favorite part is the feeling of relief when you finally solve a difficult puzzle or hide just in time as her footsteps get closer.
Compared to similar horror escape games like "Hello Neighbor" or "Slendrina," Granny is more straightforward and focused on pure tension. Hello Neighbor has more complex AI and building mechanics, but Granny's simplicity makes it scarier and easier to pick up. Slendrina (by the same developer) is also great, but Granny was the first and feels more polished. I recommend Granny to players who enjoy a good jump scare and a challenging puzzle game that really tests your nerves and patience.
Features
- Stealth Gameplay 👣: You must walk quietly and avoid making noise to keep Granny from finding you. It's more tense than games where you can just run.
- Puzzle Solving 🔑: Find and combine items to unlock doors and progress. Similar to classic point-and-click adventures but with a horror twist.
- Time Pressure ⏳: You have only five in-game days to escape, adding urgency missing in some open-ended horror games.
- Dynamic AI 🧠: Granny's patrol patterns change, making each playthrough unpredictable, unlike scripted horror games.
- Atmospheric Horror 🏚️: The dark, detailed house and creepy sounds create a scarier mood than many brighter mobile games.
Pros
- Pure Scare Factor 😱: The constant threat of Granny creates unmatched tension. Better at jump scares than slower horror games.
- Simple Controls 👍: Easy tap-and-move system works perfectly on mobile, unlike some ports with clunky controls.
- High Replay Value 🔄: Multiple escape methods and random item locations mean you can play it many times.
Cons
- Frustrating Difficulty 😤: It can feel unfair when Granny catches you instantly. Less forgiving than other escape games.
- Repetitive Sounds 🔁: The same loud jump scare sound gets old fast. Other horror games use sound more subtly.
- Ad Interruptions 📱: The free version has frequent ads that break the immersion. The paid version is almost a must.
