Fortnite is a free-to-play battle royale game developed by Epic Games. It's available on almost every platform you can think of: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and even mobile devices through the App Store and Google Play. The core game is completely free to download and play. It makes money through in-game purchases for cosmetic items like character skins, gliders, and pickaxes, which are called V-Bucks. There are no ads interrupting gameplay. There's also a paid seasonal Battle Pass that offers a ton of extra cosmetic rewards as you play.

The main way to play is the classic Battle Royale mode. You and up to 99 other players drop onto a large, colorful island, scavenge for weapons and materials, and fight to be the last one standing. The best part, and what makes Fortnite unique, is the building mechanic. You can instantly build walls, ramps, and floors from materials you gather. This turns every fight into a creative battle. You're not just shooting; you're building forts for defense or ramps to get the high ground. My favorite part is the constant map changes and live events. Epic Games is always adding new locations, weapons, and crazy limited-time modes. The live concerts inside the game, like the one with Travis Scott, are unforgettable experiences you won't find anywhere else.

Compared to similar games like Apex Legends or Call of Duty: Warzone, Fortnite feels more creative and less serious. Apex has great hero abilities and smooth movement, and Warzone has realistic gunplay. But Fortnite's building system adds a whole new layer of strategy that no other game has. It has a steeper learning curve because of building, but that's also what keeps it fresh after thousands of matches. I recommend Fortnite because it's more than just a shooter; it's a constantly evolving playground where creativity and quick thinking win fights.
