I've been using it for a while now to figure out what's growing in my garden and on my hikes. The app launched a few years back and you can easily download it from Google Play for Android or the App Store for iOS. It has millions of installs on Google Play, which shows how popular it is with fellow plant lovers. The best part is that the core app is free to download and install. You don't even need to register an account to start snapping pictures and getting identifications, which I really appreciate for quick use. While the free version is super handy, there are optional in-app purchases if you want to unlock more advanced features, like unlimited identifications per day or detailed plant care guides. I do see occasional ads in the free version, but they're not too intrusive and you can remove them if you upgrade.
Using the Plant App is incredibly straightforward, just like a real user would want. When I'm out and see an interesting leaf or flower, I simply open the app, point my camera at it, and take a photo. Within seconds, it gives me the most likely matches with pictures and names. A simple tip I've learned is to try and get a clear, well-lit shot of a leaf or flower against a plain background for the most accurate result.
