MyHyundai with Bluelink is a car app in the utility category that makes remote vehicle control simple and fast. I downloaded this app from Google Play right after I bought my Hyundai Elantra last year. It works on both Android and Apple devices, and I was happy to find out it is free to download. You do need to register with your vehicle info and create an account before you can use most features. The app has over one million installs on Google Play, which shows quite a few Hyundai owners are using it. There are no forced in app purchases to use the basic functions, but some premium connected services might require a subscription after your free trial runs out. I have been using it for six months now, and it does come with a few ads during the setup process, but they are not too annoying.

Using this app is pretty straightforward. When I park my car at the airport or in a big lot, I open the app on my phone and can lock or unlock the doors from far away. The remote start feature is what I use the most in winter to warm up the car from inside my house. A simple tip I tell other users is to always make sure your phone has good internet connection, or the commands will fail. You can also check your car's fuel level, tire pressure, and even find it through GPS if you forget where you parked. I use the maintenance alerts to know when it is time to change the oil or rotate the tires. It sends a notification to my phone, so I do not have to keep track of dates myself. The app also lets you schedule charging times if you drive a hybrid or electric model, which is something I find very useful.

Compared to similar car apps like FordPass or Toyota Remote Connect, I think MyHyundai with Bluelink does a solid job for daily use. I chose it over others because it feels less cluttered and the interface is simpler to navigate. With FordPass, I have tried it on a friend's car, and it had too many menus to get to basic commands. MyHyundai's app keeps things clear and fast. The response time for commands is usually under ten seconds, which is good enough for me. Toyota's app also offers remote features, but it requires a paid plan sooner than Hyundai's free trial period. Overall, I am happy sticking with this app because it does what I need without confusing me. If you own a Hyundai made after 2015, I think it is worth giving this app a try from the app store.

Pros

  • 👍 Simple remote commands like lock and unlock work every time with no errors. I have had fewer failed commands compared to HondaLink where sometimes the request just times out.
  • 👍 The maintenance scheduler reminds me about oil changes and tire rotations based on real mileage. FordPass has this too, but MyHyundai's alerts are more accurate to my driving habits.
  • 👍 Guest driver mode lets me share access with family members. Toyota's system makes this more complicated, so I appreciate how easy Hyundai made it.

Cons

  • 👎 The app sometimes logs me out for no reason. I never had this issue with HondaLink or FordPass. It is a small thing but annoying when I am in a hurry.
  • 👎 Subscription pricing after the trial ends is not very clear in the app. Toyota shows their plans upfront, but MyHyundai hides it in the settings menu.
