Weather Radar & Weather Live is a weather app in the utilities category that makes checking daily forecasts simple and fast. I found this app on Google Play a few months ago and decided to download it. The install was quick and it didn't ask for much space on my phone. The app is free to download which is nice but there are ads here and there. You don't have to register to use the basic features but some advanced stuff might need a sign up. I think the app has been around for a while and it shows with a decent number of downloads on Google Play. It gives you live radar maps, hourly updates and even severe weather alerts which is useful when you are planning your week. There is an option for in app purchases if you want to remove ads or unlock extra features. Overall it does what it says and feels reliable for everyday use.
When I use the app I usually check the radar first because that gives me a clear picture of what is coming. It shows rain, clouds and even wind patterns in real time which helps me decide if I need an umbrella. I like that you can set your home location and get notifications when the weather changes suddenly. A simple tip is to turn on the alerts for severe weather so you don't miss storms. The interface is clean and not too cluttered which makes it easy to navigate even for someone like me who is not tech savvy. I use it mostly in the morning to plan my day and sometimes before heading out for a walk. The live updates are pretty accurate and I have not had any major issues with delays.
Compared to other weather apps like AccuWeather or The Weather Channel, this one feels more straightforward and less pushy with extra features. I used AccuWeather before but it had too many pop ups and notifications that annoyed me. Weather Radar & Weather Live keeps things simple and focuses on the radar which is what I care about most. It is not as detailed as some paid apps but for free it does a great job. I chose it over others because it loads fast and does not drain my battery as much. The app is available on Google Play and the App Store so it works on both my phone and tablet. If you want something basic and reliable without a lot of fuss this is a good pick.
Features
- 🌤 Live radar maps show rain, snow and clouds in real time which helps you plan outdoor activities better than using a basic forecast app like Yahoo Weather.
- 🌤 Hourly and weekly forecasts are easy to read and update quickly without needing to refresh the app like you have to do on some other free apps from Google Play.
- 🌤 Severe weather alerts come directly to your phone which is a feature that stands out compared to WeatherBug which sometimes delays notifications or misses local storms.
- 🌤 The app uses GPS to track your location automatically so you do not have to type in a city name every time which saves time compared to using older apps that need manual entry.
Pros
- 👍 The radar quality is clear and loads fast even on slower internet which beats apps like 1Weather that sometimes freeze on the map screen.
- 👍 It does not have a lot of unnecessary features so you can find what you need in seconds unlike more complex apps like Carrot Weather that feel too busy.
- 👍 The app works well on both Android and iOS so you can switch devices without losing your settings which is not always true for smaller weather apps on Google Play.
- 👍 Notifications are useful but not spammy which is a big plus compared to apps like AccuWeather that send too many alerts for minor changes.
Cons
- 👎 The ads can be annoying during use and they sometimes cover part of the radar map which is not a problem in premium apps like Dark Sky.
- 👎 The app could use a widget for the home screen because having to open the app every time is less convenient than what you get with Weather Channel on Google Play.
- 👎 Some users might want more detailed data like air quality or UV index which this app lacks compared to more complete weather apps.
