Hiface is a beauty and selfie app that you can use to analyze your face shape and get personalized style recommendations. I downloaded it from Google Play a few months ago when I was trying to figure out which hairstyle would suit me best. The app launched a couple of years ago and is available on both Google Play and the App Store. On Google Play, it has over 5 million installs, which is pretty impressive and made me feel it was trustworthy. It's completely free to download and install, which is always a big plus. You don't need to register or create an account to use the basic features, which I really appreciate for privacy and simplicity. While the core face shape detection is free, the app does offer some in-app purchases for more detailed analysis or advanced style guides. I haven't felt the need to buy anything yet, as the free version gives me plenty of useful info. I do see occasional ads, but they are not too intrusive and are a fair trade for getting such a handy tool for free.
Using Hiface is super straightforward. After you install the app, you just open it and take a selfie or upload a photo from your gallery. The app guides you to position your face within an oval frame. It's important to have good, even lighting and a neutral expression for the most accurate result. A simple tip from my experience: pull your hair back so your full face and jawline are visible. The app then processes the image and in seconds tells you your face shape—like oval, round, square, heart, or diamond. Once you have your result, you can explore different sections. It gives you advice on the best hairstyles, glasses frames, makeup tips, and even beard styles for men that complement your specific face shape. I use it mostly before getting a haircut or shopping for new sunglasses. It's fun to play with the virtual try-on features too, though those sometimes feel a bit gimmicky.
Compared to other similar beauty analyzer apps I've tried, like YouCam Makeup or ModiFace, Hiface feels much more focused. Those other apps are packed with AR makeup try-ons and filters, which is cool, but can be overwhelming. Hiface does one main thing—face shape analysis—and does it really well. It feels less cluttered and more purpose-built. I chose Hiface over others because it was highly rated on Google Play specifically for this feature, and the recommendations felt more practical and less like a sales pitch. While some fashion apps might have a face shape tool buried in their features, Hiface makes it the star of the show. For someone who just wants a quick, reliable answer on what suits their face, this app is a perfect, simple download.
Features
- 📱 Core Face Shape Detection: The main function is instantly analyzing a selfie to identify your face shape (oval, round, square, etc.). It's more accurate and dedicated than the similar feature buried in big apps like Perfect365.
- ✨ Personalized Style Guides: Based on your result, it provides tailored advice for hairstyles, eyewear, makeup, and facial hair. This is its standout feature, offering more structured guidance than generic beauty tips found elsewhere.
- 🎭 Virtual Try-On Tools: It includes AR features to virtually test different hairstyles or glasses. While fun, this is where it directly compares to apps like YouCam; Hiface's version is simpler but integrated with its shape analysis.
- 📊 Simple & Focused Interface: Unlike multipurpose beauty suites, Hiface's design is clean and centered on the analysis journey, making it less confusing for new users who just want a specific answer.
Pros
- 👍 Fast & Accurate Analysis: The detection is quick and the results feel accurate compared to my own guesses or advice from friends. It's more reliable than some web-based tools I've tried.
- 👍 Practical, Actionable Advice: The style recommendations are useful and specific. For finding flattering glasses, it gave me better, more shape-focused tips than general stores or fashion apps.
- 👍 No Account Needed: I love that I could download, install, and use it immediately without signing up. Many similar apps force registration, which Hiface smartly avoids for core features.
- 👍 Great Free Tier: The amount of valuable insight you get for free is excellent. It beats apps that lock basic analysis behind a paywall or subscription.
Cons
- 📌 Ad Interruptions: The free version has ads that can pop up. It's manageable, but a premium, ad-free option would be nice for a smoother experience.
- 📌 Try-On Accuracy: The virtual hairstyle try-ons can look a bit unnatural or not align perfectly, which is a common issue but noticeable when compared to top-tier AR apps.
