Fireboy & Watergirl: FairyTales is a cooperative puzzle-platformer game. It's the latest entry in the popular Fireboy & Watergirl series. You can play it on PC through web browsers on sites like Coolmath Games, and it's also available as a free app on both the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store. The game is free to download and play. There are no ads during gameplay, which is a huge plus, but you can purchase additional 'chapters' or levels as in-app purchases if you want more content beyond the initial free set.

You control two characters at the same time or with a friend: Fireboy, who is red and can't touch water, and Watergirl, who is blue and can't touch lava. The goal in each level is to guide both characters to their matching colored doors. The best part is the teamwork. You have to think for two people, coordinating jumps, pushing buttons, and avoiding hazards specific to each character. My favorite part as a player is the 'FairyTales' theme itself. The levels are filled with magical elements like moving storybook platforms, enchanted forests, and tricky spells that change the environment. It feels fresh compared to the older temple settings.

If you've played games like 'Ibb & Obb' or the classic 'The Lost Vikings', you'll understand the two-character puzzle dynamic. However, Fireboy & Watergirl is much more accessible and faster to pick up. Compared to earlier games in its own series, FairyTales has more creative and visually interesting levels. I recommend this game because it's a perfect blend of simple controls and increasingly challenging puzzles. It's fantastic for playing with a sibling or friend on the same device, offering a real test of communication and patience.

Features

  • Co-op Magic ✨: Play solo controlling both or with a friend. The fairy tale theme adds new magical obstacles and beautiful, storybook-style levels.
  • Elemental Puzzle Solving 🔥💧: Core gameplay remains strong. Use fire and water elements to solve puzzles, like freezing water or lighting torches, which is more varied here than in the original Forest Temple.
  • Hazard & Platform Mix 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️: Precise jumping and timing are key. New hazards like magical beams and disappearing ink platforms keep you on your toes.
  • Progressive Challenge 📈: Levels start easy but get complex quickly, introducing new mechanics at a good pace to keep veteran puzzle players engaged.
  • Clean Presentation 🎨: No ads during play is a massive win over many mobile puzzle games. The music and sound effects fit the magical theme perfectly.

Pros

  • Great Co-op Fun 👫: One of the best same-device multiplayer experiences, like a simpler, faster-paced 'Ibb & Obb'.
  • Fresh Theme 🧚: The fairy tale setting makes the puzzles and visuals more interesting than the older temple games.
  • No Interruptive Ads 🚫: A smooth, immersive puzzle experience without video ads popping up.

Cons

  • Solo Can Be Tricky 🎮: Controlling two characters alone requires constant switching, which can feel awkward on a phone screen.
  • Limited Free Content 🔒: The free version has fewer levels than the old web games. You hit a paywall for the full story.
  • Can Feel Repetitive 🔁: The core 'avoid your element' mechanic doesn't change, so it might feel samey if you've played other games in the series.
