There are ads in the app, but they are not too annoying, and there is no pressure to buy anything inside, though some extra features are locked behind optional in app purchases.
When you open the app, you just pick a character and it looks like a real video call is starting. The person on the screen moves, talks, and reacts to your voice in a simple way. My cousin loves pretending that Elssa is actually calling her. She will sit and talk to the screen for a long time, and it keeps her busy. A tip I learned is to use the app with good lighting because the camera interaction works better, and also to mute the microphone if the background is noisy. The app also has a few different scenes you can switch between, so it does not get boring too fast.
Compared to other similar call simulation apps, Video Call Elssa feels more polished and the animation is smoother. I have tried a few others, and some of them feel cheap or have too many pop up ads.
