It launched back in 2013 and you can find it on both Google Play and the App Store. It has over 50 million downloads on Google Play alone. The app is completely free to download and install. You don't need to register an account to start using it for basic features like checking scores, which is great. However, if you want to personalize your experience by picking your favorite teams for alerts, you'll need to sign in with a Yahoo account, which is also free. The app does show ads, and there are no in-app purchases to remove them, so you'll see banners and video ads while you browse.
Using the Yahoo Sports app is pretty straightforward. After you download and install it, you land on a home screen filled with top stories and live scores. I usually just scroll to see what's happening. The best tip is to use the 'My Sports' tab at the bottom. Here, you can select the leagues and specific teams you care about—like the NFL, NBA, or Premier League. Once you do that, the app becomes much more useful. Your home feed will prioritize news about your teams, and you'll get push notifications for score updates, game starts, and big plays. I have it set for my local baseball team, so I never miss when they score. It's also handy for checking schedules and standings quickly. The video highlights are a big plus; they load fast and give you a quick recap without needing to hunt on social media.
