Calorie Control & Diet Tracker is a health and fitness app designed to help you track what you eat every day. I found it while looking through google play apps because I wanted something simple to count calories without paying a monthly fee. The app has been around for a few years now and you can download it on both google play and the App Store. It shows over one million installs which gave me some confidence before I hit the install button. The app is free to download and you do not need to register right away, which I really like. You can just open it and start using it. There are some ads at the bottom but they are not too annoying. It also has in app purchases if you want the premium version but the free version works fine for me so far.
When I use this app, I usually log my meals right after I eat so I do not forget. You can search for foods in the database or scan barcodes on packages which saves a lot of time. I also use the water tracker to make sure I drink enough during the day. One tip I learned is to set a reminder in the app so it pings you at meal times. That helped me stay consistent for the first few weeks. Another thing I do is pre log my breakfast the night before so I know exactly how many calories I have left for the rest of the day. It keeps me honest and I do not overeat as much as I used to. The app shows your daily progress with a simple bar and it updates right away when you add food.
I have tried other diet apps before like MyFitnessPal and Lose It but this one feels less cluttered. Those apps have too many features and push you to upgrade all the time. This app keeps things basic which is exactly what I wanted. The design is clean and easy to read. I am not a tech expert so I need something that just works without a learning curve. Calorie Control & Diet Tracker does what it says and it does not try to be something else. I also like that the developer seems to care about updates because the app gets fixed quickly when something breaks. Overall this app is my go to now and I recommend it to my friends who just want a simple way to watch their food.
Features
- 😊 The food database is huge and you can find almost any brand you are looking for. I searched for a local snack and it popped up right away. That never happened in other apps.
- 😊 The barcode scanner is super fast. I just point my camera at the package and it pulls up the nutrition info in seconds. It makes logging meals feel less like a chore.
- 😊 The daily calorie goal adjusts as you log exercise. If I take a walk, the app adds those burned calories back to my goal. That gives me a little extra room for a treat without guilt.
- 😊 Compared to something like Lifesum, this app feels lighter and loads faster on my phone. Lifesum has pretty pictures but it takes forever to open and drains my battery. This app runs smooth even on my older device.
Pros
- 👍 The app works offline which is a big deal for me. I do not always have wifi at the gym and I can still log my meals without any problem.
- 👍 It gives you a weekly summary at the end of each week. I can see my average calories and weight trend in one place. That helps me plan better for the next week.
- 👍 The app does not crash or freeze. I have used it for three months now and I never lost my data. That makes me trust it more than some big name apps.
Cons
- 🔧 The ads can get repetitive and sometimes cover the save button for a second. It is not a deal breaker but it slows down my logging.
- 🔧 The recipe calculator is not as good as in MyFitnessPal. I had to manually enter ingredients which took extra time. I hope they improve this feature soon.
